White Line Sphinx Moth

The White Line Sphinx Moth, also know as the Humming Bird Moth because of having similar flight characteristics to a Humming Bird, is indigenous to the Unites States and is also found in some parts of Canada and Mexico.  The Sphinx moth is most active from April to October, and while in larval form, damages plants, it is an important pollinator since it's diet consists of nectar from flowers.  You will find the highest concentration of moths around the light plants on the job site because the moths normally use the moon to navigate.  The moth will try and fly parallel to the moon, but as it passes a light, it will turn toward it to try and stay parallel to it.  This is why they circle the lights.
